Drills and Blind

AM: Oaks Area 2

SERIES A. Remote casting drill (Lumi, then Laddie)

Placed dog in sit 80 yards from SL, between SL and pre-positioned duck at 130 yards from SL. Threw WDs to both sides at 45° angles to the line to the duck. Returned to SL and cast dog with a straight Back. If necessary, provided additional handling to duck. Then sent dog to pick up each of the WDs.

Lumi required several casts to the duck, but was responsive in her handling. She seemed uncomfortable with the frozen standing water that she had to cross to get to the duck.

Laddie required only a single Back cast to the duck. He later required a little handling on one of the WDs, and showed excellent responsiveness to the WSCs.

SERIES B. Remote casting drill (Lumi, then Laddie)

Identical to Series A in specifications and performance, though from a different SL and in a different direction in the field.

PM: Laytonsville Park

SERIES C. Remote casting drill (Lumi only)

Placed Lumi in sit 40 yards from SL, between SL and pre-positioned duck at 90 yards from SL. Threw WDs to both sides at 45° angles to the line to the duck. Returned to SL and cast Lumi with a straight Back. Then sent Lumi to pick up each of the WDs.

Lumi seemed more motivated with the shorter distances than this morning's set-up, and required only a single Back cast to the duck.

SERIES D. Land blind (Laddie only)

A 220-yard blind across a softball field and a soccer field, the blind at the edge of a woods. Laddie needed only a single WS and angle-back at 120 yards. Excellent response on the WS, excellent line on the cast.
